Naturally, the first thing that one sees when they come through the door of your home is the entrance way itself or the foyer. This area creates the first impression of you, your tastes, and your housekeeping skills as well.
One of the atmosphere you want to create in this area is a welcoming atmosphere. It does not matter what the size it is it could be a large well laid out area for example or could be the size of a cubby hole. You can still create the warmth and the welcome you want to extend to your visitors.

You want one piece that is going to be the focal point for your entrance. It may be the art on the walls or the carpet on the floor. If possible, try to have some size of a table by the door, as it is handy for when people come in to set items down on. It also has a way of creating warmth as well.
You have to be careful when it comes to the carpet. You don't want to put a carpet down that's not going to be durable and be able to take the debris that's going to be coming through the door as people enter.
If it is a small area and there is no closet then ideally you could pick yourself up a unique coat rack. . If this is a problem then you may need to have a wall rack. No matter what you choose though make sure it fits in with the decor and it is not just any old piece that you picked up at a sale.
Another piece of furniture that works really well at an entrance way if you have the space is the deacon's bench. This saves on the wear and tear and dirt that builds upon the wall with people leaning against it all the time while they remove their footwear. The deacon's bench has the ability to create an ambience to the atmosphere.
It is always nice to be having some sort of lamp perhaps on the table that we have mentioned in this area as well. The soft glow illuminates the entrance way and goes a long way in softening the decor.
Although we have only mentioned a few items here, they are all items that are very important and have a great impact on your entrance way. They also go a long way in keeping it orderly and tidy as well. You can pretty well create any theme that you so choose just by the style of the furniture that you are going to be using there.
